CosmonautHistory – Origins

Science Woman appeared in a vision to Leslie Van Stavern Millar, Montana visual artist, during a visit to Great Falls’ Paris Gibson Art Museum in 1982. Initially Science Woman manifested as a two-dimensional character in Leslie’s paintings and prints.

In 1992 Leslie was inspired to become “Science Woman,” donning her trademark lab coat, cat-eye glasses, leopard print pants and scientific accessories. Since that time Science Woman has featured in numerous videos, articles, interviews, photo shoots and live art performances.

Science Woman is preoccupied with exploring the intersection of science and art, experiments, the formulation of theories, travel for the acquisition of data, and an active exploration of the natural world.

Several times a year Science Woman lectures on her research findings.

Science Woman enjoys using her position of authority to inform people on what to do, especially in support of issues she is passionate about.
